Dear Emily, Happy 30th Birthday! What a joy to have you in our family! I have not known you well, but what I have known has been sweet, godly and very well-matched as a wife for Joel. I'm excited to see your family grow - we need lots of Christian familes to raise lots of Christian kids. I praise God that you are doing just that. A note about turning 30: When I turned 30 (over 30 years ago), 30 was, well, 30! It meant you were "over the hill" and if not married, an "old maid."!! As a single young woman, I refused to look at it that way after turning 29, so I contemplated how God would have me look at it. He gave me the thought that when Jesus was 30, His REAL ministry began - up until that time He lived and worked at home, in preparation for His ministry to come. I began to think this thought every time I thought about turning 30. After awhile, I began to wonder if God had something concrete in mind with this approach - was something special going to happen after I turned 30? To make a LOOOOOOONG story short (I can tell you sometime when you've got 45 minutes!), God was preparing me to meet and marry Harold Alexander, all of which happened right after I turned 30. So if 30 seems scary or old (I hear 40 is the new 30 :), the Lord can give you a positive, anticipatory outlook! Love, Aunt Barb (for both Harold and me :) :)
PS My birthday is also in July - the 5th. And Aunt Marion's is the 11th :)

Honey, I can write you a nice little note telling you how much I appreciate you and love you...and I'm sure you'll be touched by it. But I've done that before and it just feels insignificant. Plus, I know in the back of your mind you will always have that typical spouse-like feeling of "well, you have to say that, it's my birthday and you are married to me!" So, instead of JUST writing you a letter telling you how I feel about you, I thought I would back it up! These people in this blog are not married to you, and THEY DON'T HAVE TO SAY IT! They love you (not half as much as I do though). Bookmark this blog and read through these truths about you and the impact you've had on people and simply be refreshed. I love you
